Welcoming The Dark Ages

As the days grow shorter, and the nights bleed into the late afternoon hours, we begin to feel encouraged to stay inside and finally light that festive candle. Nesting and resting with our thoughts and holiday plans doesn’t have to be stressful, in fact, we can welcome the darker days with hot coffee and a hot-girl mindset that embraces it all.

Although Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, is very real, I’d like to explore some ways to find comfort in the dark.

Our bodies are meant to rise and fall with the sun, but being in bed all day can be a huge bummer for our mental health during this time of year. I love to opt for mood lighting like colored lightbulbs, salt lamps, and lots of candles to add warmth to other areas of my home to build more comfy corners. Nesting. Adding color and warmth to your space is a great way to release those happy hormones that we all desperately crave!

And if you know me, you know that my personal style is a huge component of my life and brings me so much joy. So let’s shine some light on the subject. I love fall and winter fashion for the excuse to layer all my cozy neutral pieces – and feel confident in my all black ensembles. My wardrobe tends to darken this time of year to reflect the lack of daylight, which makes outfit building a breeze on those chilly mornings. Darkness is chic, and it makes these colder days feel a bit more purposeful and refined. When you look good, you feel good.
